Intro to Geophysical & Geotechnical Survey

ABOUT THE COURSE

This foundational training introduces the principles and practices of both geophysical and geotechnical surveys used in marine and offshore environments. Participants will learn how survey systems are selected and applied to map subsurface structures and seabed conditions, how data is acquired and interpreted, and how results inform engineering decisions and site investigations. By covering key methods and integration of datasets, this course equips professionals with the baseline knowledge needed for more advanced survey tasks and multidisciplinary workflows.

Contents

  • Overview of geophysical and geotechnical survey objectives
  • Survey system types: seismic, SBP, sparker, boomer, sidescan, magnetics, coring
  • System installation, calibration, and operational configuration
  • Survey planning: line layout, acquisition parameters, and quality control
  • Data acquisition techniques and challenges (deep-water & near-shore)
  • Data interpretation: sediment layering, subsurface structure, ground model input
  • Integration of geophysical and geotechnical results for engineering use
  • Case studies and real-world examples of subsurface survey campaigns
