ABOUT THE COURSE

Gain a solid understanding of the key concepts behind data quality control in hydrographic surveys.
This course provides an accessible introduction to statistical and quality control principles used in multibeam data processing and validation. Participants will learn how to interpret and apply survey standards, understand the meaning of standard deviation, total propagated uncertainty (TPU), and 95% confidence levels, and evaluate the accuracy and precision of survey data.
Through practical examples and demonstrations in common survey software, this training helps participants recognize quality indicators and assess whether data products meet client specifications and international standards.

  • Survey standards and data quality requirements
  • Statistical concepts: bias, error, and confidence levels
  • Understanding and applying TPU, TVU, and THU
  • Setting up survey software for multibeam data QC
  • Using a-priori SD for TPU calculation
  • QC tools and grid-based survey statistics
  • Data QC for final products

Prerequisites
